The
CAL FIRE
Fire Management Plan (Very Large PDF File) that includes Santa Clara County.
From the
Executive Summary: The Santa Clara Unit Fire Management Plan documents
the assessment of the fire situation in the unit, includes stakeholder
contributions and priorities, and identifies strategic targets for
pre-fire solutions as defined by the people who live and work with the
local fire problem.
This report (Large PDF File) includes Santa Clara County.
The California Fire Plan is the state’s road map for reducing the risk of wildfire. By placing the emphasis on what needs to be done long before a fire starts, the Fire Plan looks to reduce fire fighting costs and property losses, increase firefighter safety, and to contribute to ecosystem health. The California Fire Plan is a cooperative effort between the State Board of Forestry and Fire Protection and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE.)
In addition to the California Fire Plan, the California Fire Plan Web site leads us to:
Fire Safe Planning Program - Developing California communities with Fire Safe Planning within the urban-wildland interface (UWI) helps structures survive wildfires. It is aimed at federal, state and local fire prevention staff to help homeowners, landowners, decision-makers, and local government planners make informed land use decisions.
Structures and lives are put at risk when accumulated fuels make property damage more likely and fire fighting harder. Increasing numbers of structures in the UWI change fire fighting strategies and hamper the ability of firefighters to defend public and private property.
The Fire Safe Planning Program is responsible for providing access to and interpretation of fire safe laws and regulations covering general fire prevention and wildland fire safety, recommended standards for fire and building codes, including fire hazard assessment and zoning, infrastructure safety, hazard mitigation to create defensible space, and building construction standards.
The program also provides guidelines for hands-on implementation of fire safe strategies for the development of public safety elements within county general plans.

CAFE Mission Statement: The California Association for Fire Ecology (CAFE) is an organization of professionals dedicated to improving the knowledge and use of fire in land management. CAFE is accomplishing these goals through sponsoring symposia, short courses and a summer field institute.
